Accessibility
Sofia Lara wants this shop to work for everyone, including people using a screen reader, a keyboard on its own, voice control, or a magnified screen.
The standard we work to
We are working towards the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA. That is the level referred to by the European Accessibility Act and by the EN 301 549 standard. We test the shop against those guidelines and treat anything that falls short as a fault to be fixed rather than a nice-to-have.
What is in place
- Every page can be reached and used with a keyboard alone, and the focus outline is visible as you move.
- Headings run in order, so a screen reader can be used to skim a page.
- Product photographs and other meaningful images carry text descriptions.
- Text meets the contrast ratios required at level AA, and the page still works when text is enlarged to 200 per cent.
- Form fields at checkout have visible labels, and errors are described in words rather than by colour alone.
- Nothing moves, flashes or plays on its own.
What we know is not right yet
- Some third party content, such as payment windows and embedded services, is outside our control. We raise problems with those suppliers as we find them.
- A small number of older product photographs have thin descriptions. We are rewriting them.
- The size guide table is wide, and on a narrow screen it has to be scrolled sideways.
